The signing of a brand licensing agreement between Gustave Roussy International and Elevate P.E. in the presence of Ms Catherine Vautrin, Minister of Labour, Health, Solidarity and the Family, Ms Rania Al-Mashat, Egyptian Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation, Prof. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Egyptian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population, and Mr Eric Lombard, Minister for the Economy, Finance and Industrial and Digital Sovereignty, took place today.
Dr. Ahmad Morsy, Managing Director of Gustave Roussy International Egypt, Dr. Tarek Moharram and Mr Omar Yasser Abdelkader, representatives of Elevate, together with Prof. Fabrice Barlesi and the Gustave Roussy International teams, welcomed the launch of this strategic agreement.
Gustave Roussy International Egypt will welcome its first patients on April 8th 2025. Two new buildings will be added to the existing infrastructure to increase patient capacity.
The partnership is based on joint governance between Gustave Roussy International, a subsidiary of Gustave Roussy, and Elevate P.E.. The Egyptian government will upgrade the infrastructure, Elevate P.E. will equip and manage the facility and Gustave Roussy will contribute its expertise in oncology, guaranteeing the application of international standards of care and training.
The ambition Gustave Roussy International Egypt, which was specialised in oncology since 2017 under the name Dar Al-Salam-Hermel hospital, is to become a reference centre incorporating cutting-edge technologies in radiotherapy, genomics and innovative treatments.
The opening of this Egyptian centre is part of a series of strategic international partnerships being developed by Gustave Roussy International in the Middle-East, but also in Europe and Asia.
An important project to strengthen the Egyptian healthcare system and share Gustave Roussy’s expertise
Designed to meet the growing needs in the field of oncology, Gustave Roussy International Egypt will fulfil a dual mission:
- With an eventual capacity of over 300 beds and the capacity to treat all types of adult cancer, with a priority given to haematology and brest cancer, it will guarantee high-quality care for patients, with particular attention paid to people from the public sector, who will represent 70% of beneficiaries.
- The partnership also includes a training programme that will enhance the skills of Egyptian professionals and ensure that standards of excellence in oncology are shared in the long term. Doctors from Gustave Roussy will go on short missions to Egypt to provide specialist training and consultations alongside local teams. As part of this transfer of expertise, Egyptian doctors will also be welcomed at Gustave Roussy and given access to master classes, including advanced courses in chemotherapy.
"This partnership is the embodiment of our mission to disseminate our expertise beyond our borders, to fight cancer more effectively on an international scale, particularly in areas where cancer care provision is not fully structured. Thanks to our collaboration with the Arabic Republic of Egypt and Elevate, we are laying the foundations for a first centre of excellence in Egypt, combining care, research and training, the first initiative in a series of international collaborations to come", says Prof. Fabrice Barlesi.
