Tracking Pixels in Press Release Emails
What is a tracking pixel?
A tracking pixel is a very small, generally invisible image embedded in an email. When it is loaded upon opening the email, or when click-tracking links are activated, this constitutes a read operation on your device. Such operations are subject to Article 82 of the French Data Protection Act, in the same way as cookies used on our website.
Purpose and optional nature
With your consent, MediaConnect uses these trackers to compile aggregated statistics on email opens and link clicks. These statistics are shared with the organisations issuing the press releases without identifying individual recipients.
Your consent is optional and separate from your registration. It is not a condition for receiving press releases. Whether or not you provide your consent, you will continue to receive press releases that match your profile.
Joint controllership and contact details provided by third parties
For the purpose of producing these statistics, MediaConnect and the organisations issuing the press releases act as joint controllers within the meaning of Article 26 of the GDPR.
Where your contact details have been provided to us by a list provider, your consent to the use of trackers is collected through a dedicated email that does not itself contain any tracking pixel requiring consent.
Trackers exempt from consent
Deliverability measurement that is strictly limited to managing our mailing lists—including identifying inactive recipients, adjusting sending frequency, unsubscribing inactive recipients and retaining only the date of the most recent email opening, recorded to the nearest day—is carried out without consent because it is strictly necessary.
Security trackers, unsubscribe links and links used to collect your privacy choices are also used without consent because they are strictly necessary.
Withdrawal of consent and objection
You may withdraw your consent or object to the use of tracking pixels at any time, as easily as you provided it, by clicking the “Reject tracking pixels” link in the footer of each email. You will not be required to enter your email address again.
You will continue to receive press releases, but your email opens and link clicks will no longer be measured.

This consent mechanism applies to recipients located within the European Economic Area.

Recipients and retention periods
Data generated by these trackers is processed by MediaConnect and by service providers acting on its behalf. Only aggregated statistics that do not identify individual recipients are shared with the organisations issuing the press releases.
Retention period for tracker data: 6 months.
Retention period for proof of consent: 6 months.
This mechanism is implemented in accordance with the recommendation issued by the French Data Protection Authority (CNIL) on 12 March 2026.
