Grupo Carrefour Brasil signs contract with GreenYellow to deploy self-consumption solar energy across 54 stores
The solarization project will cover more than 30% of the energy consumption of the sites concerned, with an installed capacity of over 38 MWp distributed across 54 systems. It will avoid the emission of more than 2,000 tons of CO₂ per year, equivalent to planting approximately 10,000 trees.
Based on a full self-consumption model, under which all generated electricity is consumed on-site without being fed back into the grid, this solution will improve consumption predictability and strengthen the energy autonomy of the sites involved.
According to Marcelo Xavier, General Manager of GreenYellow Do Brasil, this solution is expected to cover on average 30% of the stores’ electricity consumption.
The 54 rooftop photovoltaic installations, deployed on existing buildings, represent an installed capacity of more than 38 MWp and an estimated annual production of 56 GWh. Without causing any additional land artificialization, this deployment makes use of existing built surfaces. Beyond its economic benefits, the project will generate significant environmental gains, with a reduction of more than 2,000 tons of CO₂ per year, equivalent to planting 10,000 trees.
This initiative is part of Carrefour Brasil Group’s sustainability strategy, which conducted an in-depth review of its assets in 2023 to accelerate the solarization of its operations.
“Energy is one of the key cost and competitiveness drivers of our business. By investing in our own generation, we reduce exposure to tariff volatility, lower our emissions, and create a replicable model across our portfolio. This translates into sustained operational gains, greater cost predictability, and direct value creation for our customers. This project clearly demonstrates that environmental performance and economic performance can go hand in hand,” said Rodrigo Monteiro, Energy Procurement Manager at Grupo Carrefour Brasil.
The contract with GreenYellow, which will be responsible for the full execution of the project, is based on an Energy as a Service model. Under this arrangement, GreenYellow designs, finances, deploys, operates, and maintains the photovoltaic installations over the entire contract duration, with no upfront investment (CAPEX) from Carrefour Brasil Group. This service model provides a 100% self-consumption, turnkey solar solution while improving energy cost visibility and accelerating the Group’s decarbonization trajectory.
ABOUT GREENYELLOW
GreenYellow, a French company founded in 2007, has become over 19 years a major player in decentralized energy transition in France and internationally, and a true partner for the Commercial & Industrial (C&I) sectors as well as the public sector in their decarbonization journey and quest for energy independence.
An expert in energy efficiency programs and the electrification of uses, as well as in decentralized solar photovoltaic production and energy storage, GreenYellow supports companies across the entire value chain. The group ensures studies, design, financing, development, and operation of assets, enabling its clients to reduce their energy consumption, electrify their processes, and produce green, local, and competitive energy, while strengthening their overall competitiveness.
In 2025, the projects carried out by GreenYellow helped avoid the emission of almost 646,000 tons of CO₂ equivalent. The group also aims to achieve carbon neutrality (“Net Zero”) for scopes 1 and 2 by 2040.
Operating in some 15 countries across 4 continents, GreenYellow innovates by constantly enriching its unique and global platform of offers to support its 1,400 clients in their transition to a more sustainable energy model and meet the challenges of climate change. www.greenyellow.com/en
