ChatEurope

ChatEurope (chateurope.eu), the first platform combining a curated European news hub with an AI-powered chatbot dedicated exclusively to European affairs, was launched one year ago. Since then, it has transformed the way European citizens stay informed with high-quality, verified, and accessible EU news content.

ChatEurope was launched in July 2025, creating the first-ever platform for European affairs news bringing together a consortium of well-established European media to provide a comprehensive picture of continental affairs through an innovative chatbot.

A closed news database for reliable answers

ChatEurope is designed to make European affairs easier to follow with the help of artificial intelligence. The platform combines a curated news hub with an integrated chatbot that answers questions on EU topics using only a closed database of articles published by its trusted media partners or vetted databases like Eurostat – not the open internet. This helps reduce hallucinations and strengthens the factual accuracy of the chatbot’s responses.

When it cannot answer a question reliably, the chatbot says so. As more verified content and trusted datasets are added, the share of “no answer” responses will decrease over time.

More verified content, every day

The chatbot benefits from a constant stream of new content added to the database daily, providing it with more information, more perspectives, and overall, a better ability to generate answers users can rely on. Since its launch, ChatEurope's  curated content has grown immensely thanks to the effective collaboration between partnering media.  Additional trusted databases will be integrated step by step.

Learning from user questions

ChatEurope is also a way to learn what people want to understand about Europe.  In the first twelve months of operation, the chatbot received over 17.500 queries in 11 languages, primarily English, French, and German. According to Google Search Console data, ChatEurope recorded 10.3 million search impressions in its first year. It also generated 139,000 clicks from Google Search results.

A detailed analysis of around 3,000 requests from the first quarter of 2026 shows that questions closely follow the news cycle. Topping the list are EU-US trade and international affairs. One fifth of the questions, concerned Donald Trump, the Mercosur deal, and diplomatic relations involving Greenland and Iran.

AI and technology are also high priorities for the users of the chatbot, specifically regarding Europe’s digital transformation, its dependence on American tech platforms, the Digital Services Act (DSA), and proposals to restrict social media use for minors.

Everyday issues represented 8% of queries. The economy and society are major concerns. Users asked about the cost of living, personal finance, and demographic change. Many also wanted clearer explanations of how the EU works, with questions focusing on EU politics, institutions, and democratic processes.

This treasure trove of data allowed the ChatEurope team to fine tune both its editorial curation and  its social media production, based on what users actually ask.

Talking to a younger generation and beyond

From the start, ChatEurope’s  social media strategy was designed to reach younger audiences who are less familiar with EU affairs and traditional news formats

Today, the project focuses mainly on Instagram and YouTube, with plans to expand to TikTok and Facebook. On Instagram, we publish formats that respond directly to questions submitted to the chatbot. Over the past year, we covered topics such as the housing crisis across Europe, the EU’s AI regulation, and the new European driving license.

On YouTube, ChatEurope publishes richer formats, including live streams of major events. On LinkedIn, we share updates on the project and lessons learned from building an AI-supported, verified news service.

From lab to life

“In twelve-month ChatEurope went from an idea shared by 15 european media and tech partners to a lab experiment to finally becoming a highly functional tool that provides verified information that european citizens can trust”, said Christophe Vogt chief editor and ChatEurope project manager.

” A most precious commodity in an environment plagued by disinformation and AI slop,” added Vogt.
