A new design of the Blue Chairs of Promenade des Anglais, Nice?

The Promenade des Anglais in Nice is known around the world, especially for its "Blue chairs".
The armchair was repeatedly redesigned to become the blue chair. In 1992, the architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte revamped the Riviera armchair. To date, there are few left, welded together to form large shoals. Their production has ceased.   Symbol of the Promenade des Anglais, it is gradually disappearing, victim of its success, thefts, wear and tear. Chair models are replaced every 25/30 years to make way for new designs.

Faced with this observation,the Nice born designer Stephane Belgrand Rousson and designer Minh-lôc Truong propose a new unique and exclusive model to match current standards of street furniture, and perpetuate this international symbol of the city of Nice.

The design work maintains the traditional blue chair codes that have evolved over the years. The curved uprights integrating the armrest take up the curve of the Baie des Anges. The seat is inclined for optimal comfort.

Passionate about the Blue Chair heritage Stephane Belgrand Rousson has, since 2018, voluntarily created and written the Blue Chairs Wikipédia page to safeguard these Nice icons at the international level.
His proposal to the City of Nice is to organize a call for tenders and a competition to replace these chairs in the near future while keeping their spirit.
