Launched in November 2022, the GADMO project is a European Commission co-funded initiative that brings together fact-checking teams, including AFP’s, alongside academic researchers. Through a co-financing programme, GADMO partners have secured renewed EU support to continue their work for a further 30 months.
During the first phase, more than 3,800 fact-checking articles in German were published on the project’s website. The hub has since expanded to include media literacy resources and research findings on disinformation.
In its current configuration, the alliance brings together German and Austrian journalists and fact-checkers from Agence France-Presse (AFP), Deutsche Presse-Agentur (dpa), Austria Presse Agentur (APA), the independent network Correctiv, as well as researchers from TU Dortmund University – which coordinates the project – and the Austrian Institute of Technology (AIT). Together, they already produce in-depth verifications and analyses of disinformation campaigns. From now on, the platform will also feature digital investigation pieces, scientific analyses and media literacy initiatives designed for parents and older audiences, under a new slogan: “Knowing what a fact is.”
As AI-generated content becomes increasingly prevalent, GADMO’s collection of educational resources will be expanded with video tutorials on generative AI, while researchers develop strategies and tools to detect media manipulation and so-called “hallucinations” produced by large language models (LLMs).
A new monthly publication, the GADMO Brief, will provide an overview of GADMO’s latest work. The results of this collaborative effort will also be shared via a new Instagram account, to reach broader audiences and boost the visibility of fact-based content.

New content will be published on Instagram, Threads and LinkedIn, while the website gadmo.eu will remain the central access point, managed by the Greek company ATC, which oversees all the project’s technical aspects.
