Agence France-Presse is launching the production phase of Gen.EU, a European media project bringing together partners across the continent to connect young people through news, multimedia content, and live events. The goal: give young Europeans a platform to discuss the issues that shape their daily lives - from climate change and cost of living to education, gender equality, and civic engagement.
After a preparatory phase starting in December 2025, AFP is teaming up with OKO.press (Poland), Forum Apulum (Romania), Dossier (Austria), El Orden Mundial (Spain), DCN (Greece), and CSM (Hungary), with Telex (Hungary) coordinating the project. Together, they will produce a daily flow of youth-focused news and stories, shared on the platforms young people use most: Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and Spotify.
Over the next year, Gen.EU will create more than 3,000 multimedia pieces - including short and long-form videos, carousels, and podcasts - in seven languages: Hungarian, Polish, Romanian, German, Spanish, French and English. AFP will contribute its expertise in international journalism and digital content production, ensuring coverage that is both high-quality and cross-border relevant.
The project goes beyond screens. Local online discussions on Discord, in-person meetups, and two international events will offer spaces for live conversation and cross-border exchange. These gatherings aim to stimulate debate, build media literacy, and encourage young Europeans to participate actively in democratic life.
"AFP is proud to join this innovative initiative to spark dialogue among young Europeans. As traditional media faces a retreat and disinformation clouds digital spaces, Gen.EU is a vital collaborative effort to provide "Gen Z" with the reliable, fact-based reporting they need to navigate the issues shaping their lives. Leveraging our global newsroom network, on-the-ground reporting, and proven expertise in debunking misinformation, AFP will play a central role in driving this essential European project forward,” said Christine Buhagiar, AFP’s Director of Development and Diversification.
Supported by the European Commission’s CNECT 2024 programme, Gen.EU hopes to reach at least 3 million young Europeans by January 2027, creating a more informed, connected, and empowered generation.
The Gen.EU project is co-funded by the European Union. The authors alone are responsible for the content of the publications. Neither the European Union nor the granting authority can be held responsible for them.
