Bayerische Staatsoper
The Bayerische Staatsoper proudly reflects on its 350-year history while continually striving to enrich the cultural landscape with fresh artistic contributions, outstanding productions, and socially relevant discourse—reaching audiences far beyond Bavaria.
With around 600,000 guests and over 400 events each year, we play a pivotal role in reinforcing Munich’s reputation as one of the world’s leading cultural cities. Each season, from September to July, we present more than 40 operas spanning five centuries and over 20 ballets from the 19th century to the present day, along with concerts and recitals. Our venue, the Munich Nationaltheater, seats 2,101, making it Germany's largest opera house and one of Europe’s most beautiful theaters.
As a three-division house, the Bayerische Staatsoper is home to its own orchestra—the Bayerisches Staatsorchester—and ballet company, the Bayerisches Staatsballett. Since 2021, Vladimir Jurowski has been in the position as General Music Director of the Bayerisches Staatsorchester. Laurent Hilaire has been the Ballet Director of the Bayerisches Staatsballett since 2022.
