ChatEurope, the go-to platform for European affairs created by leading European media outlets, is expanding its offer with the launch of a new cross-border investigation series developed in collaboration with the European Data Journalism Network (EDJNet). The initiative provides journalists across Europe with free, ready-to-use text stories, visualisations and datasets to strengthen reporting on key EU issues.

Designed to make complex European topics more accessible, this new offer delivers in-depth reporting packages enriched with maps, charts and data visualisations. All datasets produced during the investigations are freely available on the ChatEurope website and can be used under a Creative Commons licence, enabling newsrooms of all sizes to deepen their coverage with high-quality, evidence-based insights.

A unique, cross-border newsroom in action

EDJNet brings together 34 member organisations from 22 countries, making it one of Europe’s strongest networks for data-driven reporting.

Two investigations have already been published: – “The Internal Border Maps Fueling the Far-Right Vote in Europe”, coordinated by El Confidencial – “From luxury to fast fashion: How green are European brands?”, coordinated by Deutsche Welle

These early publications confirm EDJNet’s strengths in addressing socio-economic inequalities, pollution and climate change, access to healthcare, human rights, and legal justice – topics that will remain at the core of the upcoming investigations.

A community committed to open journalism

“EDJNet is not just a coalition of European newsrooms collaborating to produce data-driven investigations on European affairs; it is also a community of journalists who share common values regarding the production, sharing, and dissemination of knowledge on issues that matter to citizens across Europe. This commitment is reflected in the network's efforts to make the datasets it produces easily accessible to all, including journalists, civil society organisations, and institutions,” says Federico Caruso, Editorial Coordinator at EDJNet and OBCT.

A unique platform – connecting news, data, analysis and AI

With this new investigative offer, ChatEurope expands its mission to make EU affairs understandable and accessible. Alongside the investigation series, ChatEurope continues to provide its core services:

– a multilingual chatbot that answers questions on EU affairs with reliable and verified information – access to news in multiple languages and from a wide range of European perspectives.

ChatEurope receives funding from the European Commission.
