“My brand is inspired by ballet, based on my experience as a ballet dancer,” Kisada said after holding an in-person show on the opening day of the biannual event, which kicked off in the Japanese capital on Monday.

“Since I had not had a show for a long time, I wanted to present a collection concentratingmy identity formed in the motif of ballet,” she said.

Wearing toe shoes and fluffy tulle skirts inspired by ballet costumes, models were sashaying on the catwalk as a professional ballet dancer was performing behind the seethrough stage curtain.

“The show itself is an opportunity to experience physical aspects. I created the collection allowing people to feel physical expression such as music and visuals,” Kisada said.

Kisada is one of the two brands that receive support for 2023 AW season from title sponsor Rakuten Group through the “by R” project aiming to broaden “the horizons of talented designers in Japan and showcasing the country's designer fashion to the world.”

She vows to continue seeking the attraction of ballet in her future collections, saying: “I believe the world of ballet is truly the pinnacle of physical expression. (Ballet) is my identity and my backbone, so how to update it is both a challenge and something to look forward to.”
