Designers gathered for the biannual parade to present their new collections, which attracted the Tokyo audience with an interest in vogue.
“I usually wear black and often put a one-color item as an accent,” a woman dressed in a oversize leather jacket said after attending a runway show in a basement at Tokyo’s fashion haven Shibuya district.
“My style is to maintain balance by combining cool femininity with soft femininity.” the woman in her 20s said.
The twice-a-year fashion event ended on March 18 as 58 houses offered their new creations. Of them, 42 brands presented in-person runway shows with the remaining 16 labels opting for digital presentations.
A man who also attended the show said: “Japanese fashion is booming, and Asia as a whole is on the rise. Since I am working in this industry, I hope to make it even more exciting together.”
People on the street also feel proud of their local fashion.
“I think there are fashions that can only be found in Tokyo,” said a man in his 20s in Harajuku, near Shibuya. “I hope to bring out Tokyo's uniqueness. I think there is a wonderful fashion scene here.”
A woman wearing a turban-like boa hat said: “Japanese fashion is free. Some people wear simple fashions, while others are more flamboyant. I think everyone has their own cuteness.”
A man in a long leather coat also said in Harajuku: “Tokyo fashion has its own individuality. Everyone dresses in different ways. It is a very fashionable city.”
