The main goal of ChatEurope is to provide citizens across Europe with reliable, fact-based answers to their questions about European issues. The ChatEurope chatbot operates in all EU languages and generates responses solely from its curated content hub supplied by trusted media partners. The chatbot answers only questions related to European affairs and does not scan the open internet.

Key Insights from September – December 2025

An analysis of user requests reveals the topics that attracted the greatest attention:

Geopolitics & Defense (around 25% of queries)

Users focused heavily on Russia’s war in Ukraine and Donald Trump’s actions on the global stage.

Economy & Trade (around 20% of queries)

Many users expressed strong economic anxiety, driven mainly by two developments during this period: the US–EU trade conflict triggered by Trump’s tariffs and the Mercosur trade agreement.

Digital Policy & Technology Regulation (around 18% of queries)

Users showed intense interest in the EU’s regulatory actions against non-European digital platforms. In particular, a viral news about the Chinese online retailer Shein — involving allegations of illegal products, including sex dolls, and a potential EU ban — generated significant attention.

EU Politics & Elections (around 15% of queries)

Users primarily asked about recent and upcoming elections, including the Romanian presidential election (victory of Nicușor Dan) and the rise of far-right parties across several EU member states.

What were users trying to achieve?

An analysis of how questions were phrased indicates that users were primarily seeking to verify rumours, confirm specific news stories, and obtain clear overviews of complex political developments. Fact-checking and summarisation emerged as the two most important user needs.

A barometer of European concerns

ChatEurope publishes a quarterly ranking of the most-searched topics, based on the thousands of questions submitted by users across Europe. These rankings serve as a real-time barometer of public interest and concern regarding European affairs.

The data presented in this press release is based on aggregated and anonymised analysis of questions submitted to the ChatEurope chatbot. No individual questions are disclosed, ensuring full respect for user privacy and data protection standards.

Funding note

ChatEurope receives funding from the European Commission.
