GREENYELLOW PROMOTES SUSTAINABILITY IN PARTNERSHIP WITH MONBAKE THROUGH A 6.9 MWp GROUND-MOUNTED SOLAR PHOTOVOLTAIC PLANT
Monbake, one of the largest Spanish companies specializing in the production of frozen dough and bakery-café products, present in over 30 countries, is partnering with GreenYellow, a global leader in decentralized energy transition for C&I sector corporates, to accelerate the adoption of renewable energy in Spain. Together, they are commissioning a 6.9 MWp ground-mounted solar power plant, significantly reducing carbon emissions and optimizing Monbake’s energy consumption. Located just one kilometer from one of its main factories, this installation embodies their shared commitment to sustainability and innovation.
Thanks to this solar power plant, Monbake will cover more than 25% of its energy consumption with green, local, and cost-effective energy. This project actively contributes to the fight against climate change by avoiding the emission of approximately 1,265 tons of CO₂ per year—the equivalent of planting 6,250 trees.
With a 15-year Power Purchase Agreement, GreenYellow Iberia will ensure the operation and maintenance of the asset, guaranteeing optimal system performance and a continuous supply of clean energy.
This project was made possible through close collaboration with local authorities and key stakeholders. The cooperation between all parties helped overcome challenges and ensure the project's smooth execution. Furthermore, this initiative aligns with the objectives of the Noblejas municipality’s program, in accordance with the European framework and the National Plan "España Puede," which promotes sustainability, digitalization, and social and territorial cohesion.
CHALLENGES AND INNOVATIVE SOLUTIONS
The project’s development required overcoming several challenges, including obtaining permits, negotiating with landowners, and coordinating with regulatory bodies to secure the necessary approvals. A key aspect of the project was the dialogue with farmers, which facilitated fair negotiations without inflating land prices, ensuring a beneficial agreement for all stakeholders.
Through collaboration with local partners like Icoenergía, an efficient solution combining advanced technology and precise planning was implemented. Icoenergía’s commitment and professionalism played a key role in the project's success, resulting in a high-impact installation that enhances corporate sustainability.
A LASTING AND LOCAL IMPACT
The solar power plant marks a significant milestone in Monbake’s sustainability journey, reducing its reliance on conventional energy sources and advancing its environmental responsibility goals. This project also supports the local economy by sourcing materials and resources from regional suppliers.
"Through this partnership with Monbake, we are taking a decisive step toward a more sustainable energy model, in line with GreenYellow’s values and commitments. This project enables Monbake to produce its own clean, local energy at a controlled cost. Moreover, it represents the largest project we have developed in Spain since our arrival two years ago, demonstrating our ability to provide effective energy solutions for the industrial sector," said Nicolas Daunis, General Manager of GreenYellow Iberia.
"As a frozen dough manufacturer, MONBAKE faces a dual challenge regarding energy supply: ensuring its sustainability while controlling costs, given energy's significant impact on our final product prices. GreenYellow’s turnkey offer and expertise in the sector were key factors in our decision to undertake this project in partnership with them," added Mónica García, Indirect Procurement Manager at Monbake.
