GreenYellow strengthens its investments in business decarbonization in Poland

The company, which already manages projects totaling 145 MWp in Poland — either operational or under construction — notably for Biedronka, Decathlon Polska, Orange Polska and CMC, will continue its expansion by relying on an ‘Energy-as-a-Service’ model, with no upfront investment required from clients.
 
Retail, a driver of decarbonization

The retail sector is becoming one of the main drivers of the energy transition in Poland. The largest photovoltaic deployments in this sector are currently based on the PV-as-a-Service model (PVaaS). This involves long-term contracts under which the integrator/operator designs, finances, builds and operates the installation, while the client pays a fixed fee for its use.
The contract also includes operation and maintenance services, ensuring the long-term performance of the installation without requiring the client to make capital expenditures (CAPEX). The projects carried out by GreenYellow for Biedronka and Decathlon illustrate this model.

In the case of Biedronka, the scale of the project is considerable. In December 2025, the number of installations reached 2,300+ sites, with a total capacity exceeding 100 MWp, representing annual production of nearly 100 GWh.
For its part, Decathlon is developing installations in the form of photovoltaic carports, i.e. parking shade structures equipped with solar panels. Spread across 14 sites in 12 cities, these systems have a combined capacity of 3 MWp (equivalent to around 3 GWh of annual production), enabling the retailer to reduce its CO₂ emissions by more than 2,000 tonnes per year.

Industry joins the momentum

Driven by rising energy costs and growing awareness of energy challenges, the industrial sector is also significantly accelerating the deployment of decarbonization solutions. In this segment, on-site energy production facilities are gradually becoming the norm.
The energy transition now concerns an increasing number of industries, including food processing, automotive, industrial automation and wood processing.

Investments in renewable energy, energy efficiency and the electrification of uses are no longer optional, but necessary. Our projects demonstrate this trend, including the supply of power to Orange Polska’s data center in Warsaw and the 653 kWp photovoltaic installation carried out for CMC’s plants in Andrychów.” adds Rolando Furlong.
 
More than 100 MWp additional capacity under development and multi-million-euro investments

Due to Poland’s energy mix, which still relies on coal for nearly half of its energy production, the market for energy services dedicated to businesses is attracting an increasing number of international players and continues to become more professionalized. However, it still faces several challenges, including regulatory changes and electricity grid constraints.
Demand for decentralized, behind-the-meter energy sources that reduce dependence on the national grid is growing rapidly. GreenYellow is currently developing projects representing a total capacity of more than 100 MWp.
 
Photovoltaic installations are now increasingly combined with battery energy storage systems (BESS). These systems not only optimize self-consumption by storing electricity produced for later use but also provide greater energy flexibility to sites by managing energy flows in real time. BESS therefore help reduce peak consumption, limit grid-related costs, strengthen the resilience of installations and, ultimately, contribute to electricity system flexibility mechanisms.

At the same time, solutions aimed at improving infrastructure efficiency are becoming increasingly important: modernization of heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems, optimization of refrigeration systems, cogeneration, and industrial heat production. The cumulative value of projects completed and currently under study in this area alone exceeds €40 million.

Over the next three years, GreenYellow will dedicate more than €100 million to developing new photovoltaic capacities, energy storage systems, energy flexibility solutions, as well as energy efficiency and electrification projects in Poland. The company is also exploring acquisition opportunities that could further accelerate the development of its activities in the region.
