The installations, spread across 13 cities in the Midwest, South, Southeast, and North regions of Brazil, have a total installed capacity of 43.8 MWp. They will produce 85 GWh annually - equivalent to the electricity consumption of 43,700 Brazilian households. The financing, approved in 2024, is already in effect, with all plants fully operational since the end of the second half of 2024.
The 16 sites are in: Matrinchã (GO), Costa Rica (MS), Canarana (MT), Américo de Campos (SP), Guaíba (RS), Venâncio Aires (RS), Santa Cruz do Sul (RS), Mondaí (SC), Alto Paraná, Goianésia (GO), Itacoatiara (AM), Iranduba (AM), and Balsas (MA).
This financial support comes from the Finem program (126 million BRL) and the Climate Fund (30 million BRL).
This is the second partnership between GreenYellow and BNDES. In 2022, an initial financing of 63 million BRL supported the implementation of 11 solar power plants in the South, Southeast, and Northeast of the country. In December 2024, GreenYellow also issued an incentive debenture of 85 million BRL to strengthen its investment capacity in decentralized energy production.
This new funding comes at a time when distributed generation is experiencing strong growth in Brazil. This mode of production takes place close to the point of consumption, which eases the load on the power grid and complements hydroelectric production—the country’s main source of electricity—especially during periods of drought.
“This new financing recognizes the strength of our project portfolio and demonstrates the robustness of our business model, as well as the continued trust of BNDES in GreenYellow. It allows us to firmly establish our presence in Brazil, where we are developing concrete and efficient solar solutions to support our clients in their decentralized energy transition,” said Marcelo Xavier, General Manager of GreenYellow Do Brasil.
“BNDES is the largest financier of renewable energy in the world, according to Bloomberg. Our goal is to support investments in local production and distribution of renewable energy, so the country can advance in the energy transition program outlined by President Lula's government. This project will avoid the emission of 844,000 tons of CO₂ equivalent over its 30-year lifespan,” explained BNDES President Aloizio Mercadante.
With this new solar project, GreenYellow confirms its position as a key player in decentralized energy infrastructure in Brazil and accelerates the rollout of the energy transition.
