To mark International Migrants Day on December 18, the European Data News Hub (EDNH) is releasing an interactive guide available in 9 languages answering the key questions on migration in Europe. The guide was compiled by AFP and 5 other European press agencies partnering with the EDNH, an EU-funded project.

For this joint investigation on one of Europe’s key issues, the six agencies worked closely to collect information on the key migration metrics.

  • How many people are trying to enter the EU?

  • What do we mean by terms like refugee, asylum seeker and migrant?

  • What are the main migrant routes into Europe?

  • How has the EU responded to the biggest refugee crisis since 1945?

  • What are the attitudes of EU citizens in each of the 27 member states to irregular migration.

Each agency also produced their own article to accompany the factsheet, looking in depth at a key issue such as who are the asylum officers and what criteria do they use to reach their decision. These are the articles published by AFP:

Launched in 2017, the European Data News Hub (EDNH) is a website co-financed by the European Union and managed by 6 major European news agencies: the German dpa, French AFP, Italian ANSA, Romanian AGERPRES, Swedish TT, and Dutch ANP. The website is handled by XWiki SAS, an independent European company. ENDH operates with complete editorial independence, a key factor in its credibility, as mandated by the charter published on the website and accessible to all. Dedicated to data journalism, this website offers diverse and reliable content on major topics affecting Europeans and the rest of the world, free of charge to the public and media outlets. These rights-free materials can be downloaded and reproduced by media users and shared by internet users.
