These modules of a new kind are called "biopods." Created by Interstellar Lab, a French startup, these futuristic egg-shaped greenhouses are capable of recreating ideal climates to grow soilless plants under optimal conditions, with minimal resources. First on Earth... and tomorrow in space...
Led by its founder and president Barbara Belvisi, the advent of "biopods" opens up new perspectives. The company now claims over 270 requests for its future greenhouses. These needs are expressed by various industries such as cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, or agri-food actors, eager to relocate certain types of plants sustainably, under any climate.
In an interview with MediaConnect, the founder notably discusses her collaboration with the CNES in France, as well as with the US government agency NASA, as part of the Artemis program, which aims to send humans back to the Moon.
This further fuels the childhood dream cherished by Barbara Belvisi, which she shares with Elon Musk, the founder of SpaceX: to make humanity a "multi-planetary species."
