In France, 8.5 million adults are obese. (Obesity League, 2021)

Faced with this public health issue, the Franco-American startup Allurion has designed an innovative gastric balloon: a vegetable capsule to ingest, filled with water once it reaches the stomach. The effect of a gastric band... but without surgery.

Approaching March 4th, World Obesity Day, its international director, Benoit Chardon, tells us more about how this grapefruit-sized balloon works. An innovation deployed in 15 minutes, designed to create a feeling of satiety in the patient.

According to the company, patients can expect an average weight loss of 10 to 15% after four months, at which point the biodegradable balloon eventually dissolves naturally.

In this episode, Benoit Chardon also details all the stages of the program, placed under the supervision of a medical team and currently offered by around sixty clinics in France (600 worldwide).

The medtech has just announced its listing on the New York Stock Exchange, with an estimated valuation of $500 million, aimed particularly at boosting its investments in R&D.
