We're closing out the year 2023 in style! This week, things are moving in the media with Eric Chol, editor-in-chief of L'Express. On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the iconic "newsmag," the editorial team delved into its archives to honor them in a special issue. A narrative spanning approximately 200 pages, to recount the history of the newspaper intertwined with that of a France and a world profoundly transformed over seven decades.
Launched in 1953 by the iconic Françoise Giroud and Jean-Jacques Servan-Schreiber, L’Express has always proudly upheld its commitments. Against the Indochina War and for decolonization in its early days, the publication now readily embraces its liberal and pro-European stance. It clearly states its ambitions, under the leadership of its owner Alain Weill: to become the "French Economist."
In this episode, Eric Chol recalls some of the highlights that have marked L’Express' history. Without forgetting its commitments in defense of freedoms. The editor-in-chief also explains his editorial vision and positioning in the highly competitive sector of "newsmagazines" in France. He also outlines the future of L’Express in the next 70 years.
