“We wanted to popularize and share their knowledge.” Combining academic expertise with journalistic standards: this is the mission of the editorial team at The Conversation France.

In an era dominated by misinformation and opinion, its journalists work exclusively with academics and researchers, aiming to provide news analysis that is rigorous, reliable, and independent.

A French offshoot of an international network, The Conversation France was launched in 2015. It has since formed partnerships with 90% of the country’s universities and now boasts over 6 million page views per month.

Leading this unconventional newsroom is its director, Fabrice Rousselot (former editor-in-chief of Libération), who shares behind-the-scenes insights in this new episode of our podcast dedicated to the media world.

Topics discussed include:

  • Collaboration between experts and journalists

  • Ensuring an objective and fact-based editorial line

  • Challenges faced during the COVID-19 pandemic

  • An unusual economic model for a nonprofit media organization
