Sarkozy/Kadhafi, Bettencourt, or Cahuzac: Mediapart journalists have uncovered real state scandals.
Praised or criticized, the investigative media outlet Mediapart, launched in 2008 by Edwy Plenel, proudly claims to be a newspaper that “disturbs the powerful” and now has over 220,000 subscribers.
To ensure editorial independence, the outlet strives to guarantee its economic independence. From the beginning, the media chose — "against the tide" at the time — a paid subscription model. It refuses advertising, public subsidies, or neighboring rights from GAFAM. Today, 98% of its revenues come from its readers, and Mediapart announced over 2 million euros in net profit for 2023.
Carine Fouteau took on the heavy responsibility of succeeding Edwy Plenel this year. The new president and publishing director is the guest of this new episode of our podcast.

Continuing the newspaper without its founders
