On a highway rest stop, in front of a train station, or at a market square, the “NewsTruck TropMytho” from the association Lumières sur l’info toured Île-de-France from November 1 to 19. Its goal: to reach citizens who feel disconnected from the news.
On board are journalists from various backgrounds, taking part in this experimental media and information education (MIE) tour to (re)establish dialogue with sometimes skeptical audiences.
Nearly 1,500 people were approached, often over a cup of coffee, by these information professionals.
Since 2017, Lumières sur l’info has visited schools to provide tools to fight “fake news.” Recognized as a public interest organization, the association hopes that initiatives like the traveling truck will reach far beyond the classroom.
Its president, Damien Fleurot, who is also deputy editor-in-chief of TF1’s political service, is the guest of our podcast “Ça bouge dans les médias.” In a 15-20 minute interview, he helps explain the stakes involved.
Topics covered in the episode include:
-
The origin of the campaign
-
Public reception
-
Funding challenges for a media education association
-
Lack of coordination among MIE actors
