These two generations are linked by precarity. In France, 8.6% of people over 65, or 1,067,000 people, are affected by poverty (Insee, 2021), while 20% of 18-29 year olds are below the poverty line (Commission on Economic Affairs of the National Assembly, 2021).

To combat this phenomenon, the startup Colette connects those under 30 looking for housing with those over 60 who have a spare room in their home.

It's also an opportunity for these elderly individuals to break the loneliness they may experience by creating a connection with younger generations.

In this episode, Justine Renaudet, co-founder of Colette, details the social and fiscal benefits of this intergenerational cohabitation. This includes the estimated 35% savings on average in rent for a room with the host, compared to renting a studio in Paris.

Colette boasts a network of 1,000 hosts in a market estimated at 100,000 still vacant rooms.
